Tix & Tents Project - News Weather Traffic & Radio Stations in Top Sports Cities Accross the USA

Tonight, I was on my way back to my hotel after seeing The Police & Elvis Costello at Pine Knob, (it'll always be Pine Knob even though they now call it The DTE Energy Music Theatre, or something) just outside of Detroit MI, and I thought I was facing just regular traffic after a show. I didn't quite know my way around but I knew I needed to get back to my hotel a little way down along I-75 and so I turned slowly (in the traffic) headed South. It'd been a while since I'd been in the Motor City and I'd forgotten about Michigan being the Construction Cone / Orange Barrel capital of the known Universe. So not only did I face post-concert traffic, but a 4 lane expressway narrowed down to one lane for the NEXT 2 HOURS. During which I travelled all of about 3 miles. Of course stupid me was listening to the Concert "Replay" by a local FM station (I forget the name of the station - wasn't really a replay but there were some interesting versions of The Police live that I hadn't heard before) and not to the local Traffic and Weather station. So I turned onto I-75 and sat until I had to try to merge down to one lane and sat a whole lot more, and Detroit drivers, while good folks I'm sure, proved themselves, not the politest people on the planet when it comes to merging. Anyway, I thought it would be cool to add this kind of information to augment the Tix and Tents project Hotels and Tickets , specially since these days you can hear radio telecasts online and you can get a glance at problems before you even leave for the venue.

The Police & Elvis Costello: DTE Energy Music Theatre (Pine Knob) Clarkston (Detroit) Michigan 072608

The Police Concert was a good show, by the way. If you have a chance to see The Police in the last few shows of this Reunion tour, try too. Tonight was the forth reunion show for me and they really seem to have grown back into a band, they actually looked like they were having fun, and they did a little jamming too. Got messy in the middle, but an almost acceptable kind of messy, and a little "bolting for home" at the end, but the first 4 or so songs really were A grade performances, that made me wish the station playing the "Replay" really were playing a reply. This concert, coming very close to the end of the world tour was in all a much brighter prospect and better spent money than the other shows I'd seen earlier in the tour. Elvis Costello was tight and driving, it was great to hear some of the old Favorites and Sting even joined him on stage for a while, but sad to see such a talented individual not headlining his own show and tougher to have to see the veteran have to entertain the troops during seating time. Those in place on time to see his show, seemed appreciative.
